Summer Jobs in Canada 2026

The Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program is a federal initiative that helps youth aged 15-30 gain valuable work experience during the summer months. The government subsidizes a portion of the employer's wage costs, making it easier for non-profits, small businesses, and public sector organizations to create meaningful summer positions for young Canadians.

The program typically runs from May to August each year. Employers apply in January, and job listings become available in the spring. Positions funded through CSJ must pay at least the provincial minimum wage and provide a minimum of 6 consecutive weeks of employment.

Seasonal industries ramp up hiring from April through June. Tourism, hospitality, and outdoor recreation see the biggest spike in summer employment. National and provincial parks hire hundreds of youth for maintenance, visitor services, and programming. Resorts, hotels, and campgrounds across Canada need front desk staff, housekeepers, and activity coordinators.

Beyond tourism, construction and landscaping companies add seasonal labourers, while municipalities hire youth for summer camps, swimming pools, and community programs. Retail and food service also increase staffing levels to handle summer foot traffic.
