Job Title: Home Support Worker

Location: Richmond, BC

Hourly Wage: $23.00 per hour

Work Hours: 35 hours per week (flexible schedule)

Job Description:

We are looking for a dedicated Home Support Worker to provide care and support for a 24-year-old male with special needs. The individual is non-verbal and diagnosed with ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder), Schizophrenia, Chromosomal Duplication 15q21.3, and OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder). The role requires a compassionate individual who can offer both personal care and emotional support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide care and companionship during periods of incapacitation, convalescence, or family disruption.
  • Administer bedside and personal care such as aid in ambulation, bathing, personal hygiene, and dressing.
  • Plan and prepare meals, including special diets, and assist in feeding.
  • Administer prescribed oral medications and fleet enema as necessary.
  • Encourage the patient to communicate, express himself, and engage in activities of daily life.
  • Support self-care and accompany the patient to medical/psychiatric appointments and laboratory procedures.
  • Promote participation in social and recreational activities.

Physical Demands: Bending, twisting, standing, making repetitive motions, handling materials manually, walking, and running.

Work Environment:

  • Indoors, environmentally controlled settings.
  • Exposure to biological agents.
  • Use of standard safety equipment.
  • Close physical proximity to the patient.

Employment Requirements:

  • Secondary school education or equivalent.
  • Experience in home management and home support courses may be required.
  • First aid certification.
  • Training in care of the elderly, persons with disabilities, convalescent care, or a related field.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Home Support Worker.
  • Excellent understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with mental disorders.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a caring disposition.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
