Job Description

A private household in Calgary is seeking a dependable and compassionate Home Support Worker to provide personal care, assistance and companionship to an elderly individual in his home.

Duties

• Assist with personal care and activities of daily living as required
• Assist with mobility and regular daily activities, including walking as appropriate
• Prepare and serve meals
• Provide medication reminders according to established instructions
• Provide companionship and social support
• Accompany the client to medical appointments and necessary outings when required
• Assist with grocery shopping and errands related to the client's needs
• Launder the client's clothing and household linens
• Perform light housekeeping related to the client's living environment
• Observe the client's general well-being and communicate significant changes or concerns to the family
• Help maintain a safe and comfortable home environment

Requirements

Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate.

Experience: Previous experience providing care or assistance to an elderly person is an asset. Appropriate orientation and on-the-job training will be provided.

Training: Caregiver, elderly-care or related training is an asset.

First Aid/CPR: Certification is an asset.

Language: Ability to communicate effectively in English to perform the duties of the position safely and independently.

Personal suitability: Dependable, patient, compassionate, responsible, organized and able to work independently.
