Job Duties

  • Prepare surfaces for painting by scraping, sanding, and patching holes
  • Apply primer, paint, stain, and varnish to interior and exterior surfaces
  • Mix and match paint colours to achieve desired results for each project
  • Use brushes, rollers, and spray equipment to apply coatings evenly
  • Apply wallpaper, fabric, and other decorative wall coverings
  • Protect surrounding areas with drop cloths, tape, and plastic sheeting
  • Clean and maintain painting tools, brushes, and spray equipment
  • Read blueprints and specifications to determine paint requirements
  • Estimate material quantities and costs for painting projects
  • Ensure proper ventilation in work areas when using volatile materials

Requirements

Languages: English

Education: No degree, certificate or diploma

Experience: 1 year to less than 2 years

Work Conditions

  • Working at heights on ladders and scaffolding
  • Exposure to paint fumes and chemicals
  • Physically demanding — bending, kneeling, reaching
  • Outdoor and indoor work environments
