BAKER/ASSISTANT COOKFull-Time

Chez Yen is a popular, family-run Vietnamese restaurant in the heart of the Saint-Jean-Baptiste neighborhood, known for serving authentic, homemade Vietnamese comfort food.  We arelooking for a full-time reliable, versatile and passionate Baker/Assistant cook to join our team.

This is a dynamic, split-responsibility role.  You will spend the mornings baking our signature, crispy Banh mi baguettes from scratch.  Once the baking is complete, you will transition into supporting the main kitchen line by preparing and cooking fresh ingredients, rolling spring rolls and assisting during our busy lunch service.  

The ideal candidate should have an ability to work under pressure, a sense of teamwork and experiences in bread making.  He/she is eager to learn and grow their culinary skills.  

Key responsibilities:

-Bread-making (Mornings):  Scale, mix, knead, proof and bake fresh Vietnamese-style baguettes daily.  Manage oven steam and temperatures to ensure a paper-thin, crispy crust and airy interior.

-Preparation and cooking of the menu items (Mid-day):  Shift to prep work after baking (ie. : wash, peel, chop vegies, cut and prepare meats, prepare sauces according to established recipes); assist head cook in cooking ingredients for our Pho, vermicelli bowls and Banh Mi toppings.

-Kitchen line support:  assist the head cook during lunch rush by helping assemble plates, packing take-out orders and keeping workstation stocked.
