How to Make the Most of a Career Fair
Whether it's your first job fair or your tenth, these tips will help you stand out from the crowd and make real connections with employers.
What to Expect at a Youth Job Fair
Youth job fairs and career fairs are free events where dozens (sometimes hundreds) of employers set up booths in a large venue like a convention centre, community hall, or university campus. You walk around, talk to hiring managers, hand out resumes, and sometimes get interviewed on the spot.
Many Canadian cities host recurring career fair series like the "Career Fair & Training Expo" that visits Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Ottawa, and Winnipeg multiple times per year. These events typically run from 10 AM to 3 PM and are free for job seekers.
For youth specifically, look for events organized by local employment centres, YMCA locations, community organizations, and the Government of Canada's youth employment programs. These events often include free workshops on resume writing, interview skills, and career planning alongside the employer booths.
Can't attend in person? Many employers who attend career fairs also post their openings online. Browse current youth job postings from across Canada.

Government-Funded Youth Hiring Events
The Government of Canada funds thousands of youth employment events each year through programs like Canada Summer Jobs, the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy (YESS), and provincial employment programs. These events are specifically designed for job seekers aged 15-30.
Many local Service Canada centres and provincial employment offices host free job fairs, workshops, and networking events throughout the year. These are excellent for youth with little or no work experience because the employers attending are already committed to hiring young workers.
